Zombies and Floods

Learn how zombie storms or zombie cyclones come back from the dead to haunt us.

It’s the time of year when we seek out fun-filled frights. Zombies have been the source of many scary movies and shows. But did you know that zombies and floods can be linked? Yes…it’s a thing.

Recently in 2020, we witnessed this phenomena when Paulette was raised from the dead. Who is Paulette? Paulette originally formed when we tied a record for five Atlantic tropical cyclones at once. Paulette became a hurricane—the eye of the storm passed over Bermuda. Paulette seemed to die after battering Bermude. But then, that is when Paulette rose from the dead and reorganized into Tropical Storm Paulette within about 10 days after debuting as Hurricane Paulette. Here is more about Paulette’s journey from NASA.

The National Weather Service tweeted, “Because 2020, we now have Zombie Tropical Storms. Welcome back to the land of the living, Tropical Storm #Paulette”.

Zombie storms or zombie cyclones, are basically named tropical systems that appear to die, then come back to life.

This is not the first time we’ve witnessed a zombie cyclone. In 2004, Hurricane Ivan became a Category 5 and devastated areas in its path. Ivan weakened as it headed towards the US Gulf Coast and made landfall in Alabama. Ivan resurrected a few days later as a tropical storm and dumped rain when it made its second landfall over parts of Louisiana and Texas.

Hence, this is how zombies are linked to floods. #ZombieStorm #ZombieCyclone
